Opening Box up, Torquing, and De-torquing

Problem

In refineries, opening the box-up of heat exchangers can be labor-intensive and prone to errors. The manual method using a hammering spanner can lead to uneven tightening, potential leaks, and prolonged downtime. Additionally, it may require significant physical effort and time.

Solution

1. Manual Method (Hammering Spanner): A traditional approach where technicians manually tighten bolts with a hammering spanner. While cost-effective and simple, it is time-consuming and can result in uneven tightening.

2. Semi-Automatic Method (Tensioner):Using a semi-automatic flange tensioner offers a more efficient solution. The tensioner provides controlled, even tightening of bolts, reducing manual effort, ensuring precise torque application, and minimizing the risk of leaks. It speeds up the process, especially in larger or more critical applications.

Choosing the Right Option:
  • For smaller operations or when cost is a factor, the manual method may suffice.
  • For larger operations, or when precision and time efficiency are crucial, the semi-automatic tensioner is the preferred choice, providing better consistency and faster turnaround.
